It is an absolutely beautiful beach on the South Shore of Chilmark.A trip to Martha’s Vineyard is not complete without a visit to one or more of our beautiful beaches. Paid parking is available off Moshup Trail, at least $15 per car. In total, the beach is about 5 miles long.

In season shuttle buses make stops at State Beach, between Oak Bluffs and Edgartown. Huge waves, open ocean, not good for swimming or children.  Basically the same description as for Oak Bluffs for this calm, family-friendly beach. Almost every child in Vineyard Haven took swim lessons at this beach. Plan to be there most of the beach day. From the lot, there is a long walk to the beach. Views of the ferry coming and going as well as several private sailboats and yachts.

In 1979, the debate about the Island’s nude beaches even spilled over into the national press when Anatole Broyard, a literary critic for The New York Times and seasonal resident of the Vineyard, wrote a piece for that paper complaining of the “debris” on Vineyard beaches. There is a beach for everyone. Next to the Vineyard Haven Yacht Club. Clear, calm water with beautiful sunsets.

Long dirt road down to the beach. Limited parking.Lambert’s Cove Beach, residents and renters only: Public is usually allowed after 5 p.m. Long walk down to the beach from the parking lot. It’s the safe thing to do. Again, no facilities. You can fish, swim, walk the trails or birdwatch.
