When bands keep going this long with all these major lineup changes, they start to get bogged down by the legacy of their earlier work. He takes with him many of his "orchestrated loops," and leaves behind a trio of gifted, but less dextrous, instrumental improvisers. Maybe Dave couldn’t deal with him anymore either, same as Braxton.Anytime I listen to post-Mirrored Battles or Braxton solo I think about the amazing shit they could be making together.Here's a thought: If Dave continues to do the album art - then it was for personal reasons.

The result leaves me baffled: On the one hand, Battles are as true to themselves as maybe never before, on the other hand, they are almost erratically distracted.
